The Ouachita Baptist University Tigers pulled out a close victory over Southeast Oklahoma State University by a score of 51-49 Saturday night at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium in Durant, Okla., but the Lady Tigers stumbled and lost their second straight Lone Star Conference game of the week by a score of 58-69. The Lady Tigers continued their slump losing their third game in the last four meetings, as they let a tied halftime score slide away to move to a 0-2 conference record. The Lady Tigers are 3-11 in LSC games played in Oklahoma over the past three years. Southeastern came out strong and held a 10-0 lead after five minutes of play. OBU came back, and tied the score at 27 with a shot by senior guard Jamie Scheppmann of Cove. The Lady Tigers kept it close and left the half tied at 33. The second half wasnt kind to OBU as the Lady Tigers suffered a slump of bad shooting and fell to a 16-5 Lady Savage run to put the game away. Scheppmann led the Lady Tigers with 25 points on eight of 22 from the field and nine of 10 free throw line. Scheppmann averages 22 points per game and is second in the Lone Star Conference in scoring. Against the Lady Savages, sophomore guard Vivi Dees helped OBU with 11 points on three of eight from the three point line and two of two from the foul line. Coach Garry Crowders squad shot 21 for 66 from the field including a dismal 27 percent in the second half. The Lady Tigers also shot four of 21 from the three point arc and 12 of 15 from the charity stripe. The loss to SEO and the 73-70 overtime loss on Thursday to East Central University, Ada, Okla., will almost certainly drop OBU from the top 25 in the USA Today/Womens Basketball Coaches Association national poll. Going into the week, OBU was ranked 21st in the poll. The losses will also negatively impact the teams second place standing in the south central regional poll of NCAA Division II. The Ouachita mens and womens teams come home to play Cameron University from Lawton, Okla., at the Sturgis Physical Education Center in Lone Star Conference North Division games Jan. 20. The Lady Tigers and Lady Aggies (6-8,1-2) start the action at 6 p.m., followed by a game between the Aggies (3-11,1-2) and the Tigers at 8 p.m. Ouachita will defend its home court in conference play against Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford, Saturday. The game between the Bulldogs (9-6,2-1) and the Tigers starts at 2 p.m. with the Lady Tigers and the Lady Bulldogs (10-4,2-1) follow at 4 p.m. |
