- Ouachita Basketball Teams Split Games With
UAM

- MONTICELLO-The Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tigers
defeated the UA-Monticello Cotton Blossoms, 67-51, while
the Tigers dropped an 88-61 road
- decision Saturday night to the UAM Boll Weevils in Gulf
South Conference action at Steelman Fieldhouse.

- The win by Garry Crowder's Lady Tigers boosted his team's
record to 10-3, 2-1. The Blossoms meantime fell to 3-10,
1-3. Coach Mike Reynolds' Tigers
- have struggled to a 3-10, 1-2 mark. With the victory over
the Tigers, the Weevils went to a 10-4, 3-1 record.

- In the women's game on Saturday, OBU got off to a very
slow start trailing at halftime, 30-23. The Lady Tigers
at the intermission were only shooting
- 29 percent from the field on seven of 24 attempts. The
home team was at 42 percent (10 of 24).

- The second half was a turnabout as the Lady Tigers found
the mark shooting and forcing UAM into 22 turnovers. OBU
connected on 15 of 28 from the field
- in the second half for 54 percent, while the Blossoms hit
a purple and gold brick wall and went five of 23 for 22
percent. For the game, OBU was 22 of
- 52 for 42 percent from the field, including eight of 17
from three point distance. UAM was 15 of 47 for 32
percent, while going three of 14 from the
- arc. At the line, OBU hit 15 of 25 for 60 percent, while
the Blossoms were true on 18 of 23 for 78 percent.

- The Lady Tigers won the rebounding war with 41 boards,
compared to UAM's 28. Ouachita's Jennifer Edwards pulled
down 10 rebounds to take the honors for her team.

- Ouachita's Robyn Anders ended the night with 12 points as
did Crystal Allen and Stephanie Grimes.

- UAM was led by Krisztina Hollosy with 16 points. Sharon
Jones added 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

- Just like the women, the Tigers had a poor first half
performance, except in the case of the men, the hole was
much deeper from which to climb out. After
- 20 minutes of action, Ouachita was behind 48-22.

- At that point, the Tigers were only nine of 25 for 36
percent, while the Weevils were hitting on all cylinders
by connecting on 20 of 38 for 53 percent. The second half
saw OBU come alive, but the assault by UAM did not let
up. For the second 20 minutes, OBU was a respectable 15
of 30 for 50 percent, while UAM was 15 of 25 for 60
percent.

- For the game, OBU was 24 of 55 for 44 percent from the
field, including 10 of 22 from the arc. UAM went 35 of 63
for 56 percent, including 11 of 21
- from three point land. Both teams seldom went to the free
throw line. The Tigers were three of four for 75 percent,
while UAM was seven of nine for 78
- percent. UAM won the rebounding chart with 33 boards
compared to Ouachita's 27.

- The Monticello defense forced Ouachita into 23 turnovers,
while giving up 15. The Tigers had trouble protecting the
ball as the Weevils were credited
- with 13 steals to Ouachita's two.

- The Tigers were led by forward Tim Lane with 13 points.
Guard T.J. Jones scored 11, while forwards Jarris Kentle
and Hassan Conteh added 10 each. The
- Tigers had no points from the starting post position and
only two points from the bench at the position.

- The Lady Tigers meet another impressive Gulf South
opponent on Monday night in Arkadelphia when Ron Marvel's
University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (10-3, 3-1)
come to town for a showdown. The Sugar Bears are in a
three-way tie for first place in the conference's West
Division with the Delta State
- University Lady Statesmen (15-1, 3-1) and the Harding
University Lady Bisons (10-4, 3-1).

- A win by OBU Monday night would move the Lady Tigers into
a first place position. The Sugar Bears are coming off a
74-61 loss on Saturday night to
- Delta State in a game played in Cleveland, Mississippi.
The Lady Tigers are now in a fourth place tie with the
Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns
- (9-4, 2-1).

- The UCA Bears report to Bill Vining Arena on Monday night
as the co-leader with UAM in the Gulf South West Division
with a 6-7, 3-1 record. The Tigers
- are seventh in the nine team conference. The Charles
Hervey coached Bears achieved a 77-73 win Saturday night
over the DSU Statesmen in Cleveland.
