The Tigers improved to 3-1 this spring in Shreveport.
The OBU Men's Soccer team traveled to Shreveport today for a round-robin event against Northwestern State University of Louisiana (club) and Centenary College (NCAA D-1).  They made it three in a row against club competition with a 6-0 victory over the Northwestern club.  A short time later they faced a fresh Centenary team, giving up two goals in the first few minutes of the game.  After that slow start the players settled down, closing the gap to 1-2 midway through the half while playing some excellent soccer.  However, the team lost focus and  allowed two more goals in the final minutes of the half.  The Gents put the game away with two more goals midway through the second half and cleaned up with 3 more in the final minutes.  The Tigers will return to action on April 6 at the University of Memphis 7v7 Tournament.

The Women's Soccer Team enjoyed another day of success at the Northwestern State Tournament in Natchitoches this weekend.
The Tigers advanced to the semi-finals again on Saturday with three consecutive victories over Louisiana College (6-0); The University of Central Arkansas (2-0) and Northwestern State of Louisiana (3-1).  The competition was tough as the team faced GSC rival UCA in a physical game and then upset D1 opponent Northwestern with three unanswered goals to overcome a 0-1 halftime deficit.  It was cool throughout the morning as the clouds threatened rain, but then the sky began to clear and the humidity and warmer temperatures became a factor as the Tigers would have to face three more tough D1 opponents without a rest if they wanted to earn the championship.  They dropped their first game 0-3 to Centenary and then lost the semi-final game to McNeese State 1-4.  McNeese then went on to win the tournament over Centenary after several overtimes and a shootout.  The women will have a couple of weekends off for Spring Break and then return to action on April 6 in the Christian Brothers Tournament.

OBU Women Advance to Semi-finals of Arkansas State 7 v 7 Tournament
It was a cold, windy and dreary day but the Tigers turned it into a bright one with their most successful tournament finish in their short history.  The team started the tournament with their first victory over a D1 team, beating Arkansas State Red 2-1.  They opened up a 2-0 lead and held it until the final minute.  After a short break they faced UALR (D1) but this time got off to a slow start, spotting their opponent a 0-3 advantage early.  They closed the score to 2-3 after a good comeback but then allowed one more for a 2-4 result.  They followed it up with a 7-2 pounding of Team Olympians from the St. Louis area.  Then in the best game of the day played to a 3-3 draw against an excellent club side, the Memphis Fury.  They then advanced to the semi-final game against Arkansas State White opening up a 0-2 lead that lasted until the final 5 minutes.  ASU made a great comeback taking 3 goals away.  The Tigers had several chances to tie it up again but fell 2-3.  It was their third consecutive game without a break.  ASU then won the championship against UALR and after a long, cold & wet day the sun finally came out.  The team will be in action again on March 16 at the Northwestern State University tournament in Natchitoches, LA.
