Feb. 26, 2001 Ouachita basketball coach resigns, will remain in another capacity A search committee will begin a search immediately to determine the next head basketball coach of the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers after Mike Reynolds resigned today to accept another position at the University. "Mike Reynolds has been a positive influence on his students and players at Ouachita since returning to his alma mater as assistant men's basketball coach 17 years ago," said David Sharp, director of athletics. "We're pleased he'll remain a part of the University family." Reynolds, an assistant professor in physical education, completed a B.A. degree at Ouachita in 1977. He received an M.S.E. from Henderson State University in 1986 and pursuing a doctorate in higher education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He joined longtime Ouachita Head Coach Bill Vining as assistant coach in 1984. When Vining retired from coaching in 1989, Reynolds became the head coach of the Tigers. Reynolds led the basketball program through periods of transition, including a move from NAIA to NCAA, Division II, and moves from the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference to Independent status, to the Lone Star Conference and, finally, the Tigers' first year in the Gulf South Conference. -by Jeff Root
