Tigers Lose to Texas Wesleyan

FORTH WORTH, TEXAS - The Texas Wesleyan University Rams put on a second half rush to upend the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers, 80-59, Saturday night at the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth.

It was the third consecutive loss for OBU (1-4), while the hometown Rams proved there were stars over Texas and advanced to 2-4.

Ouachita held a precarious 37-35 at halftime, but the Rams mounted an effective shooting display (13 of 22 for 59 percent from the field) in the second half to turn the game around. Ouachita, meanwhile, had Jeckyll and Hyde existence, hitting 14 of 26 for 54 percent in the first half form the field, but going a mere nine of 32 for 28 percent in the second half. When the buzzer sounded at the end, OBU had completed 23 of 58 from the field for 40 percent, while TWU had hit 28 of 53 for 53 percent.

For the game, the Tigers hit 11 of 33 treys, while the Rams connected on eight of 16. Texas Wesleyan also lived at the free throw line, hitting 16 of 27 for 59 percent, while the Tigers went only two of six for 33 percent. The Tigers did not go to the free throw line at any point during the second 20 minutes of play. Ouachita was whistled for 19 fouls, while TWU had only nine. The Tigers were also outrebounded 32-25.

Ouachita was led by forward Maurico Watson with 17 points. Jordan Cowart added 12. Starting point guard T.J. Jones scored nine, while forward Tim Lane had seven but fouled out after 28 minutes of action.

Texas Wesleyan was led by Charles Beadoin with 18 pints, while teammate Torrace Coleman scored 17. Beadoin paced both teams in rebounds with six.

Ouachita and Texas Wesleyan will meet in a return engagement on January 3 at OBU.

coming up next, coach Mike Reynolds' Tigers have three consecutive home games beginning with a 7 p.m. tip-off on Monday, December 4 against the Arkansas College Buffaloes from Little Rock. On Pearl Harbor Day on Thursday, December 7 at 7 p.m., the Tigers will face an old Lone Star Conference opponent in the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions. Finally, on Saturday, December 9, Ouachita will face another former LSC foe in the East Central University Tigers from Ada, Oklahoma in a rare Saturday afternoon game at 2 p.m. in Bill Vining Arena in the Roy and Christine Sturgis Physical Education Center.
