Tigers Take Loss at Hands of Lyon College

BATESVILLE - With revenge on their minds, the Lyon College Scots took solace in squaring the season's series with the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers as they handed Mike Reynolds' team a 93-64 defeat Thursday night at Becknall Gymnasium in Batesville.
The win by the Scots (2-4) came 10 days after Ouachita (1-3) won its only game of the season in handing Lyon a 73-69 overtime defeat in Arkadelphia.
The game Thursday night turned on reversed fortunes as the hometown Scots gained a 44-33 halftime lead on Thursday night, which was opposite the 35-22 advantage that OBU had at intermission in the first game.
Against the Scots on Thursday night, OBU was led by point guard T.J. Jones who finished with 16 points and four rebounds. Teammates Tim Lane and Mauricio Watson, scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Scots were paced by Terry Large with 18 points. Billy Linson added 17 and Russell Simmons scored 11. Linson was Lyon's leading rebounder with five.
Both Lyon and Ouachita snared 16 rebounds.
Lyon had a phenomenal night in shooting from the field as the Scots connected on 37 of 57 for 65 percent. The Scots hit a sizzling 20 of 26 for 77 percent in the second half. Lyon further stretched the final margin in decisive three point shooting in connecting on 19 of 16, while OBU went four of seven.
Ouachita, meantime, was not having a particularly bad night shooting. The Baptsits went 25 of 45 for 56 percent. During the second half, OBU's shooters hit 11 of 18 for 61 percent. But, the Tigers' leading scorer, Jarris Kennel who playing with a bad back, scored only seven points. In 11 minutes of action, starting freshman post Richard Whaley hit only one of three from the field for two points.
For the game, Lyon's bench scored 38 points, while Ouachita's contributed 12.
The Tigers will be busy on the courts in the days preceding fall semester tests. Ouachita will be playing four non-conference games in seven days, three of which are in the friendly confines of Bill Vining Arena in the Roy and Christine Sturgis Physical Education Center.
Ouachita's next opponent are Texas Wesleyan University Rams with a game scheduled for Saturday, December 2 at 8 p.m. in Forth Worth. The Tigers will return for a home game on Monday, December 4 against the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes at 7 p.m. The Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions will report to Arkadelphia for a game against the Tigers at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 7. On Saturday, December 9, the East Central University Tigers from Ada, Oklahoma are set to play the OBU Tigers at 2 p.m.
The Tigers have three games during the Christmas break, including the conference opener with Delta State in Cleveland, MS. On December 30, Reynolds take his squad to Ada, Oklahoma for a returned bout with ECU at 2 p.m. Texas Wesleyan will come to Arkadelphia on January 3 for a return match at 4 p.m NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference play for OBU begins on January 6 against DSU in the Magnolia State. Tip-off at 8 p.m.
