If you are able to view this page - congratulations - you have already completed step 1.  Otherwise, if you are viewing this from another computer, follow the steps below to connect to the "ouachita" network.

Step 1Connect to the network through a wired or wireless connection.

For a wired connection, plug your Ethernet cable (not a phone cable) into your computer and into the wall jack in your room.  If you need to purchase a cable, the cable should be a minimum of 25 feet in length. 
 


For a wireless connection follow the steps below based on your operating system:

Windows Vista

  1. Right click on the wireless icon that appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen.  wireless vista icon
  2. Select "Connect to a network"
  3. Select "OUACHITA" then click Connect
  4. If prompted, select "Connect anyway"
  5. Once connected, close the Wireless Connection window

Windows XP

  1. Right click on the wireless icon that appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen.  wireless icon
  2. Select "View Available Networks"
  3. Select "OUACHITA" then click Connect
  4. If prompted, select "Connect anyway"
  5. Once connected, close the Wireless Connection window

Step 2:  Install Clean Access

  1. Open a web browser (example:  Internet Explorer) and enter the address http://securesmart.obu.edu  if you are not automatically redirected. 


  2. Enter your TigerMail username and password (if you have not set up your TigerMail acount click on the link "To setup your TigerMail or password".  You will need to have your ID card to complete this step.)


  3. You will be prompted to download and install Clean Access Agent.  Click Next  or Finish through each prompt.


  4. Log in to the Clean Access program using your TigerMail username and password.  (This window will automatically pop up after the program has been installed unless you have a program like Norton Internet Security or McAfee Personal Firewall blocking it. Instructions on disabling third party firewalls)

Step 3:  Protect your computer

  1. Turn on your Windows firewall.

Windows Vista - comes with Windows Firewall, a two-way firewall that is automatically turned on.  Windows XP SP3

    1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK
    2. On the General tab, click On (recommended), and then click OK.
  1. Install updates

Windows users - install critical and security updates and patches from www.windowsupdate.com . 

Mac users - from the Apple menu select Software Updates

  1. Install an antivirus program if you do not already have one. There are many antivirus products to choose from including some free antivirus programs such as AVG, Avira, and Avast.
